Crime Fiction Conference ... in Hawaii!
So check this out ... a crime fiction conference in Hawaii! Fabulous right! Best part is ... it's not until March 7 - 12, 2009 so you have lots of time to save up for it and book time off from your busy schedule. ;-)
Here's some of the details:
Left Coast Crime 2009 (March 7 - 12, 2009) on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Programming: There will be a forensic track like you've never seen before; an interactive track that includes special events, interactive panels and sessions including Birds of a Feather (small group discussions), and much, much more! The meetings will take place in conference rooms, at the bar, and on the beach. In addition to great mystery content, there will be special sessions devoted to the flora and fauna and culture of Hawaii.
Interested in programming? Panelists, session moderators and others will be on a first come, first serve basis. Let them know what and who you'd like to see and hear. Registered attendees should send ideas and requests to: LCC09Programming@aol.com.
Reading: Prepare for your visit to Hawaii by reading mysteries set there. Check out their list at http://www.leftcoastcrime.org/2009/hawaii_books.html.
Plan Now: The committee is planning trips three days before and three days after the convention, as well as some trips during the convention itself. These include Visit the Volcano, snorkel, see the Petroglyphs, and more. Plan to come early and stay late. Read the blog at http://www.sayalohatomurder.com.
Hotel: They've locked in great rates at the Marriott Waikoloa from March 4 - 15, 2009. The rooms are going quickly. Go to http://www.leftcoastcrime.org/2009/hotel.html.

Booked.tv has added a new crime fiction author to their site - John Connolly. John Connolly is a best-selling crime writer from Dublin, Ireland. Here's a little bit about him if you've never heard of him before:

Booked.tv has added a new crime fiction author to their site - John Connolly. John Connolly is a best-selling crime writer from Dublin, Ireland. Here's a little bit about him if you've never heard of him before:
John Connolly was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1968 and has, at various points in his life, worked as a journalist, a barman, a local government official, a waiter and a dogsbody at Harrods department store in London. He studied English in Trinity College, Dublin and journalism at Dublin City University, subsequently spending five years working as a freelance journalist for The Irish Times newspaper, to which he continues to contribute.
His first novel, Every Dead Thing, was published in 1999, and introduced the character of Charlie Parker, a former policeman hunting the killer of his wife and daughter. Dark Hollow followed in 2000. The third Parker novel, The Killing Kind, was published in 2001, with The White Road following in 2002. In 2003, John published his fifth novel - and first stand-alone book - Bad Men. In 2004, Nocturnes, a collection of novellas and short stories, was added to the list, and 2005 marked the publication of the fifth Charlie Parker novel, The Black Angel. John's seventh novel, The Book of Lost Things, a story about fairy stories and the power that books have to shape our world and our imaginations, was published in September 2006, followed by the next Parker novel, The Unquiet, in 2007. He is currently working on The Reapers which, if he stops pfaffing about, will be published in 2008.
John Connolly is based in Dublin but divides his time between his native city and the United States, where each of his novels has been set.
He is a great writer

Love is Murder conference in Rosemont
If you live in Rosemont, Illinois ... or will be there from Feb 1st to the 3rd ... there is a cool conference coming up called Love is Murder for fans, authors, and aspiring writers of mysteries, romantic suspense, horror and thrillers.
Panelists include nationally known authors, editors, publishers, and agents, as well a criminal justice experts, attorneys, police offices, and more.

"Fans have the opportunity to hear some of the best mystery writers in this country and abroad discuss their books, their motivation for writing, their plans for future mystery novels -- just about anything fans are interested in. Fans are encouraged to question the authors during the panels, converse with them during meals and in the hospitality room, and generally mingle with them throughout the conference. We'll have authors who write in all the mystery fields -- amateur sleuth, thrillers, suspense, historical, paranormal, police procedurals, PI novels. There are two crime fiction novels that were highly recommended to me that I thought you might want to check out.
The first ... Ian Rankin's newest Inspector Rebus novel - Exit Interview. This is supposed to be the last one of the series ... but from the buzz I'm getting from everyone who's read it is that there better be another one! (For those of you who don't know who Ian Rankin is, he's the UK's #1 best-selling crime fiction author ... with a sexy accent to boot ;-) ).
Here's a little teaser:
It's late autumn in Edinburgh and late autumn in the career of Detective Inspector John Rebus. As he tries to tie up some loose ends before retirement, a murder case intrudes. A dissident Russian poet has been found dead in what looks like a mugging gone wrong. By apparent coincidence a high-level delegation of Russian businessmen is in town, keen to bring business to Scotland. The politicians and bankers who run Edinburgh are determined that the case should be closed quickly and clinically. But the further they dig, the more Rebus and his colleague DS Siobhan Clarke become convinced that they are dealing with something more than a random attack - especially after a particularly nasty second killing. Kathy Reichs audio podcast just for you ...
Ok, I admit it. I'm a shameless plugger of the Booked.tv website created by the independent production company I work for - Reel Girls Media. But I honestly can't help myself because I am so proud of this site and I actually think you will want to check out this podcast by Kathy Reichs - our featured crime fiction novelist. ;-)If you haven't heard of Kathy Reichs ... she is a bestselling crime fiction novelist, forensic anthropologist, and producer of the primetime TV series Bones that airs on Fox.
